But, I do have a big announcement about other writing:
Around 5:30 pm on New Year's Eve, I finished the first draft of my book.
On this day last year, I set a goal to add 1,000 words to that manuscript to "write like I'm running out of time" for Alexander Hamilton's birthday. Today, I didn't write. I'm still distancing myself from the manuscript so when I edit I can do so with fresh eyes.
Instead, I've been reading, watching videos for the Biannual Bibliothon, making videos for the Biannual Bibliothon, and playing the Sims 2.
But when the time's right, I will read the manuscript and make my edits. I will also look for a professional editor at some point, because I'm leaning toward indie publishing. Since I have characters who have disabilities I don't have and/or come from cultural backgrounds I don't come from, I also plan to seek out beta/sensitivity readers. I would rather be told of a mistake when there's still time to fix it. I'll explain more about that in a future post.
If you had 2016 writing goals, I hope you met them. I wish you luck with any 2017 goals. Mine are to edit the book and get closer to publication (I'm not giving myself a deadline for that because I have a lot to learn). I also have a poetry collection I'm putting together and would like to make more progress on.
In celebration of the Christmas season that just ended, please enjoy these photos from the Christmas display at the New York Public Library
